SUMMARY:Bath Branch visit to Amanda Rhodes: A life in Print - 14 March 2026
DESCRIPTION:Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Bath Branch the workshop planned for 14 March has been postponed until 11 April. The Branch will instead be visiting the Zandra Rhodes: A Live in Print exhibition at the Holburne Museum. \n\n\n\nLet’s enjoy some eye-popping design and colour together! \n\n\n\nThe exhibition includes garments from the 1960s\, 70s and 80s: ‘Vintage mannequins\, generously loaned by Fashion Museum Bath\, will take visitors on a journey through Rhodes’ most iconic prints and the inventive ways she has transformed them into garments.’ \n\n\n\nFind the exhibition details at: https://holburne.org/opening-in-january-zandra-rhodes-a-life-in-print/ \n\n\n\nWe have secured 10 exhibition tickets at a reduced group rate\, and will use branch funds to reduce the price a little more to £10. \n\n\n\nWe also have 10 reserved places in the cafe at 12 noon. SUMMARY:Spring sparkle: knit or crochet a bracelet with beads and wire - 11 April 2026
DESCRIPTION:Taking inspiration from a session at the Convention\, we will have a go at using fine craft wire to make a beaded bracelet. We will provide the beads and wire for you\, along with workshop handouts. \n\n\n\nThis will be a self-led session\, with Armelle supervising the knitters and Anna supervising the crocheters. \n\n\n\nThe wire is very fine and bendy so it isn’t hard on your fingers. We have been testing it! \n\n\n\nWhat you need to know before this session: \n\n\n\nKnitters: basic knitting knowledge. \n\n\n\nCrocheters: slip knot\, chains\, double crochet\, working in rows with a turning chain. How to follow a basic chart. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEither knitting needles 4mm; or crochet hooks in small sizes e.g. 2mm\, 3mm\, 4mm.\n\n\n\nYou might want to bring a selection so you can swap size if necessary.\n\n\n\nPaper and pencil.\n\n\n\nEither a small saucer or a piece of felt/fabric/tea towel to put your beads on so they don’t roll away.\n\n\n\nStitch markers.\n\n\n\nTape measure.\n\n\n\nScissors.\n\n\n\nTapestry needle.\n\n\n\nKnitters only: a small amount of waste yarn.\n\n\n\n\nThis session is rescheduled from November 2025.

DESCRIPTION:Success Success with crochet: turning chains\, stitch counts\, patterns and charts – and make a bookmark. \n\n\n\nThere are two things that often frustrate the would-be crocheter: the dreaded turning chain\, and correctly counting your stitches. These are often the root cause of problems\, preventing people from making progress and from building their confidence. \n\n\n\nIf this sounds familiar\, this workshop with Anna will help you. We’ll look at: \n\n\n\n\nthree basic stitches\n\n\n\nhow to use turning chains with these three stitches so you can work rows accurately\n\n\n\ncounting your stitches correctly\n\n\n\nworking from a written-out pattern\n\n\n\nworking from a chart\n\n\n\nchoosing a stitch and making yourself a bookmark to consolidate your skills.\n\n\n\n\nWhat you need to know before this session\n\n\n\nMake sure you know how to make a simple chain\, as that is the basic starting point for all stitches. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring\n\n\n\n\nDK (or thicker) yarn – please choose single-colour yarn in a medium or light colour as this will make it easier to see your stitches.\n\n\n\nAvoid yarn with a significant fluffy ‘halo’; you might want to use cotton or bamboo for an ultra-clear stitch appearance.\n\n\n\nA hook in the right size for your yarn (see ball band)\n\n\n\nStitch markers\n\n\n\nScissors\n\n\n\nTapestry needle\n\n\n\nPen and paper

DESCRIPTION:Christina from In Stitches of Stroud will deliver a workshop to our Bath Branch on the topic “Short-row knitting”. \n\n\n\nWe will be working a few small swatches practising the German Short Row technique\, how to convert the Wrap & Turn  into German short rows and\, if time\, a look at Japanese Short Rows. \n\n\n\nChristina will provide a handout. \n\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\n\n\n\nNeedles\n\n\n\nYarn in an appropriate thickness for your needles – ideally a plain colour that is easy to see the stitches\, and not too thick\n\n\n\nPen and paper for notes.\n\n\n\n\nChristina says: ‘A knitter since an early age\, I love all things yarn. In my previous corporate life\, I used to dream of having a wool shop\, and now I do\, so living the dream can come true. I love to share my knowledge and learn new techniques and work with others.’ \n\n\n\nShe is looking forward to meeting us. \n\n\n\nRemember to bring your loyalty card!
