32. Shetland Lace Stole
This hand knitted lace stole is one of the loveliest pieces in the Knitting & Crochet Guild Collection and is an exceptionally fine piece of work. It has a central panel and a scalloped edging and would have been intended for use as evening wear or for a wedding. It is made of a very fine 2-ply wool in natural white, most probably handspun, and measures 50cms/19.7ins wide by 142cms/56ins long. It is part of the Coats archive donated to the KCG Collection in 2014. It was almost certainly knitted in Shetland and was very likely acquired for that archive in the early 1950s.
