6. Crocheted blouse
This blouse is one of the finest pieces of crochet in the Knitting & Crochet Guild Collection. A short-sleeved blouse in green cotton, it has set-in sleeves, a yoke and a centre panel with flower motifs. It is fastened at the back with seven buttons covered in crochet. The blouse has a circumference of 88cms/34.6ins and measures 46cms/18ins, shoulder to waistband, with an underarm sleeve measurement of 20cms/8ins. It is a replica of a blouse designed and made by a first prize winner in the Daily Mail’s annual knitting competition in 1951. The newspaper published the pattern in a ‘Knit the Winners’ supplement in 1952.
