69. Knitted Two-piece Waistcoat and Skirt
This knitted two piece consisting of waistcoat and skirt, is an icon of 1970s fashion in both construction and colour. At that time the chevron pattern of the fabric was popular for both knitting and crochet, as were whole outfits in knitting. The economics of making by hand at home meant that fashionable garments could be made at a saving compared to buying from the shops. The combination of the style and the yarn, Paton’s Kismet in a variegated yellow and brown colourway, make this unmistakeably 1970s. It was bought for the Knitting & Crochet Collection from a charity shop in Leeds and donated by the Leeds-Bradford local branch.
