This garment has a label identifying it as an Edina & Lena design. Edina Ronay and Lena Stengard were well known members of the 1980s crop of UK designers. They were known for their stylish ready-made hand knits, often embellished with embroidery, which were sold in top outlets. This garment, which came into the Knitting & Crochet Guild Collection in 2004, was bought specially for the Collection from a textile dealer. It is knitted in a mercerised cotton and the complex fabric combines travelling stitches, stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch. The diamonds are then ornamented with flower buds, adding to the highly ornamented effect.
