Join Jane for this evening presentation where she will show examples of her work and talk about her design process, as well as her mission to highlight the differences between home-made and handmade, the importance of
recognising yarn crafts as a stage for creativity, and the validation of traditional skills.

Trained as a constructed textile designer, Jane Crowfoot has worked within the craft industry for the last 30 years and is recognised as one of the leading designers within her field, more recently acknowledged as one of the pioneers of the UK crochet revival. Jane is a designer and maker, author and tutor, specialising in contemporary and innovative crochet designs for the home interior, drawing much of her inspiration from her love of art, architecture, textiles and travel.

Jane works hard to expand the popular notion of crochet and edge it away from the idea that it is a craft representative of an older, ‘Granny’, generation. Her goal is to produce crochet projects that are ground-breaking in design and technique – that push the boundaries of the craft – but are also within the reach financially and technically of the world’s crocheters to reproduce at home.

I am a crochet designer and maker working hard to expand the popular notion of crochet and edge it away from the idea that it is a craft representative of an older, ‘Granny’, generation. My goal is to produce crochet projects that are ground-breaking in design and technique – that push the boundaries of the craft – but are also within the reach financially and technically of the world’s crocheters to reproduce at home.

The majority of my working time is spent designing and making high quality crochet projects for the home interior: blankets; wall hangings; cushions and throws. Designing for the home gives me the freedom to experiment with lots of eye-catching colour, texture and techniques. I create unique projects for display and exhibition, using paintings, architecture or textiles as the catalyst for my designs. Then, with my knowledge of the market, gained from my many years working in the craft industry, I produce a wide range of yarn kits and brochure patterns for sale via both trade and retail.

I work alongside UK yarn producers, distributors and printers to source superior and trustworthy kit components at affordable prices, so that crocheters from all walks of life can share in my design. I believe in the importance of teaching skills and passing on my knowledge, so I also tutor workshops, give demonstrations and inspirational talks and exhibit my work as frequently as possible.
