Knitted by the wearer’s fiance/wife while they were living apart, she had to travel by train from Leeds to Manchester to see him. He worked for the International Colour Authority and wore this over a brightly coloured shirt, radical in 1950’s. The fronts are knitted in “linen stitch”, a slip stitch which gives a close firm fabric.
