Shetland Bonnet and Mitts for 3 to 6 year olds.
The leaflet, published in 1952, describes these as ‘based on a traditional Shetland pattern’. The originals from which the design was taken are in the Coats-Patons Donation (item 2014.005.0010), although the leaflet specifies only two colours (dark and light), whereas the original has 7.
Yarn: Patons Fair Isle Fingering
Bonnet: 1 oz each of dark and light colours in
Mitts: 1 oz dark, 1 oz light.
The complete set needs 2 oz dark and 1 oz light.
Size: age 3 to 6 yrs
Gauge/tension: 8 stitches and 10 rows to one inch on (UK) 11 needles (3 mm) in stocking stitch.
The Fair Isle pattern should b 8½ stitches and 8½ rows to one inch.
