Leader: Kelly Ferguson
Craft: General (weaving)
Experience: Beginner
Summary: Learn how to create a Yorkshire Button using a small template and your yarn stash.
Description

Unlike the better-known Dorset Button, the origin of the Yorkshire Button is hard to determine. There is little historical evidence of where and when they were first created, or whether they originated in Yorkshire at all.

Much like the Dorset Button the Yorkshire Button uses a template or loom on which to weave. It is then filled with either toy stuffing, yarn offcuts or a button to create the required shape, whether flat or domed. The technique is quick and easy to learn. Once mastered they can be adapted to add beads, or to produce other items such as jewellery, brooches or pin cushions.
About the workshop leader

I have been with the Guild around six years after learning about the Guild at a local yarn show. I am the Branch Co-Ordinator for the Leeds Central Branch as well as volunteering as the Branch Coordinator lead. Whilst able to knit and crochet, my preference is for crochet, especially mosaic and Tunisian. I run workshops for the Guild and in a local gift shop, covering a variety of crochet and sewing related topics.
