“Tunisian crochet bandana/shawl” with Lindy Zubairy

Leader: Lindy Zubairy
Craft: Tunisian Crochet
Experience: Beginner upwards
Summary: Working from a pattern, we will make a Tunisian Crochet bandana (a triangle). The pattern calls for Tunisian Simple stitch but after a few rows, you can try out any new stitch – a variety of stitch instructions will be provided. This project can end as a bandana/cowl or continue growing into a shawl – up to you!

You can use any weight of yarn and any colour you like. The original pattern is in super chunky with a 12 mm hook. This means it grows superfast and will be finished in no time! My favourite is chunky with an 8, or 9 mm hook.

Colour changing yarn would work well or bring two or three colours of the same weight yarn – the choice is yours! Just remember that for Tunisian stitches you need a hook that is at least two sizes up than you would normally use. That is: for aran you need a 7 mm hook or larger, for chunky you need an 8 mm hook or larger etc.  You will need a long hook (30cm) or a cable hook for this project.

Skills required

As long as you can work a chain and a double crochet in traditional crochet, you should be good to go.

Preparation

Acquire a Tunisian hook and appropriate yarn.

What to bring

Please bring a hook and yarn. The hook (or hook and cable) should be at least 30cm long.

Choose your own weight and colour of yarn (a finished shawl takes about 100g), and match the hook to your yarn weight:

  • 7mm for aran
  • 8mm or 9mm for chunky
  • 12mm for super chunky.

Additional material

Lindy will provide the bandana pattern.
