Summary: We will explore the practicalities of knitting stripes in the round in dealing with ends and jogless joins. We will look at many different stripe sequences and in particular using Fibonacci.

Knitting stripes in the round is a joyful use of colour but has its issues. We’ll look at different striping patterns, practice jog-less joins and different ways of dealing with all the ends. We’ll also play with the Fibonacci sequence.

I learnt to knit in primary school and have never stopped. I love colourwork, especially small gauge patterns from Estonia and Latvia, and am just as happy knitting plain things while sitting on trains staring out the window. I have a maximum 10 projects on the needles at any one time.

Skills required

You need to be comfortable knitting in the round.

Preparation

Cast on 50 stitchess, join in the round and do your preferred edging for 4 rows (e.g. moss stitch, garter stitch or rib) and then knit two rows ready for knitting more in the workshop.

Use your preferred method of in the round which can be DPNs, two short circulars or one very long circular.

What to bring

  • DK in 4 plain colours.
  • 4mm needles in your preferred method of knitting in the round which can be DPNs, two short circulars or one very long circular.
  • If possible an example of something stripy.
