Stitch Journey – 14 September 2024

14 September @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

In August Bath Branch launched their Stitch Journey project. It will take them through a year and via the rainbow and will add to their members’ skills. And their members will end up with a thing of beauty!

They’re calling it the Stitch Journey, because they hope it will be an exploration where you can:

  • try new things, learn new skills
  • enjoy making your own sequence of squares, seeing how your yarns and colours work with particular stitches, and consolidate or add to your stitch knowledge
  • enjoy bringing your squares together as a group and comparing how different yarns and colours work with particular stitches and textures
  • contribute to a collection of squares that you can join to make an interesting display piece.

Sue Munro is overseeing the knitting side of things, with help from Pat. Anna and Armelle who are overseeing the crochet side of things.

So what’s the plan?

Starting in August 2024, Bath Branch has released one knitting and one crochet stitch pattern each month, and they is specifying a yarn colour.

You choose whether you want to do the knitted or crocheted option.

Those who are novices or less experienced in their chosen craft can always choose a more basic stitch instead, to consolidate basic techniques.

You choose your yarn of any weight, and make a 10cm square at home. Please be strict about sticking to 10cm × 10cm!

Every so often, members will be asked to bring their squares to a meeting and compare results, share what they have learned, work through any problems, and see how the yarns and colours affect the squares. September will be the first session like this.

The twelfth month will be July 2025.

Branch members will then plan how to put the squares together to make an impressive piece that the Branch can use to showcase the crafts and members’ skills.

Your September colour is pink – any shade, but it must be the dominant colour.

Your September patterns are Merlin (knitted) and Grill (crocheted). Email the mailbox to request the pattern handout: bathkcg@gmail.com

What to bring in September:

  • Your completed red August square
  • Some pink yarn for your September square (any shade, any weight)
  • Needles or hooks in the right size for your September yarn
  • The September pattern (either print it or download it to your mobile device)

In the September session members will be seeing what everyone has made in August, then making a start on their September squares.

Of course you are welcome to work on a red August square instead! To get the August pattern, email bathkcg@gmail.com

Not able to come to branch meetings? This project is designed for branch members who can make it to meetings, but other people are of course welcome to join in at home by making your own sequence of squares and finished piece.
