Do you have a knitting machine to dispose of?
You could either sell it or donate it to charity. Whichever you decide, it should be as complete as possible and accompanied by the instruction book.
If selling, try one of the knitting machine suppliers listed on our business links page, some of whom we know purchase second hand machines. They may only be interested in the more recent models. You could also try your local newspaper or on-line websites such as ebay or Preloved. It would be a good idea to look at the prices similar models have achieved recently so your expectations are not too high. Please remember that knitting machines are very heavy and delivery costs may be high. If donating to charity there are two nationwide organisations:
- Tools with a Mission (TWAM) – Tools with a Mission enables people to earn a living and to support themselves. Volunteer collectors scattered all over the country. Tel: 01473 210220.
- Workaid – Workaid tackles poverty by supplying disadvantaged people with the tools they need to acquire practical skills and become self supporting. Tools and equipment are collected from all over the UK, refurbished and sent to vocational training projects and self-help groups, mostly in East Africa and in the UK. Tel: 01494 775220.
Please be aware that you may need to deliver the machines to a certain point.
For a charity which is more local to you, try looking for art or craft groups in your vicinity. Community schools, sixth form colleges, and colleges of further education may also be interested particularly if they have textile courses. They may also know of students who are anxious to acquire a second hand machine. And if all else fails, there’s always Freecycle or a similar organisation in your area.
Good luck!
