Crochet Basics with Anna (Bath Branch) – 9 March 2024
9 March @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
We hope you’ll like this opportunity to start from the absolute basics – or to refresh and revise.
Anna will lead us through the basic crochet stitches and techniques. Once you have mastered these, you will be able to tackle most projects that take your fancy.
This is a chance to get your basic skills sorted and to boost your confidence, so you have a really solid foundation to build on. It will also be a great warm-up for April’s meeting with Emma Leith.
We’ll focus on three basic stitches, working in rows and counting accurately to make neat squares and oblongs. We’ll cover turning chains and how to vary them to suit the stitch you’re making, and we’ll combine all the stitches in one very satisfying repeating pattern (which Lucy of Attic 24 has kindly allowed us to use). Along the way, we’ll read written pattern instructions, and charts using symbols.
It will be important to be able to see your stitches clearly, so Anna recommends using a medium-weight yarn such as DK, and a fibre such as cotton or bamboo that has very little fluffy halo. The clearer your stitch definition, the easier it is to see what’s going on!
If you’re coming to this session, please email Armelle at bathkcg@gmail.com to ask for a copy of the two PDF handouts.
Please bring:
- Your chosen yarn (DK weight or heavier) – in two colours
- A crochet hook in the relevant size as recommended on the yarn ball band (Anna recommends silicone-handled hooks for a comfortable hold)
- Stitch markers (or small safety pins)
- Scissors
- A copy of the handout and the Start to Crochet guide (either print these or download them to your mobile device).
