This is an online talk on 11th February (6pm – 7:30pm UK time) by Dr Angharad Thomas, a volunteer at the Guild’s Collection. It will cover her book “A Knitters Guide to Gloves” and give information about the Knitting & Crochet Guild of the UK, and our Collections.

The modest title hints at a powerfully important guiding value of Center for Knitting and Crochet – that makers make the best scholars of knitting and crochet, because scholarship based on deep personal understanding and experience of these crafts, their history, and the materials, techniques, and perspectives that define and expand them, has enduring value to the craft community and to the public.

Dr. Angharad Thomas is a scholar, geographer, designer, and maker who lives in Yorkshire in northern England. She will discuss her passion for knitting gloves, including her extensive research on local and regional glove knitting traditions from the UK and around the world.

A retired university lecturer in art and design, Angharad Thomas recently published a book that links her extensive research on gloves – including liturgical gloves – with practical information for makers. It is A Knitter’s Guide to Gloves, published by Crowood Press, 2023.

The mission of The Center for Knit and Crochet, Inc. (“CKC”) is to preserve and promote the art, craft, and scholarship of knitting, crochet, and related arts.  To achieve these goals, CKC is creating an online museum, study center, and social networking environment to serve our community and the general public.  The CKC exists entirely online at www.centerforknitandcrochet.org and its resources and collections are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Without a physical facility, the CKC stays in touch with members and others through email and social media (FacebookTwitterInstagram, and Ravelry). A nine-member Board of Directors oversees and coordinates CKC’s activities.

The event costs $20 to attend, but is included in the annual membership that costs $10. Members of the Knitting & Crochet Guild who would like to attend the talk but who do not wish to take up membership of the CKC receive a $5 reduction on the talk cost using the code displayed below when you check out.
