‘Gadgets, Successful and Otherwise’ with Barbara Smith

Leader: Barbara Smith
Craft: General
Experience: Suitable for all
Summary: A look at some of the tools and gadgets in the Guild collection, some that sold in large numbers and others that didn’t, maybe because they were impractical or too expensive.

The workshop will allow participants to examine closely some gadgets from the Guild collection which aimed to help knitters and crocheters. It will focus on things such as yarn winders, yarn holders and needle gauges rather than the basic needles and hooks.  Some of these gadgets sold in their thousands and are still widely available, e.g. on eBay, while others appear to have vanished from the market very quickly – we will discuss possible reasons why.  A few were intended primarily as gifts or holiday souvenirs.

For anyone who attended the workshop I gave last year, on Ingenious Inventions, the selection of gadgets shown at this year’s workshop will be completely different.
