‘Knitting patchwork shells’ with Lynda Fiendley

Leader: Lynda Fiendley
Craft: Hand Knitting
Experience: Confident beginner
Summary: We will knit small shell shapes and learn how to join them to make a larger item.

Description

Group not associated with the Guild

The workshop will be focused on basic patchwork knitting skills, but especially on knitting the shell shape.

There will be an opportunity to make larger items by joining shells as we knit, and discussion about how to use these to develop patterns.

You can add extra shells to the ones you knit in the workshop to create a small scarf or shawl.

I am a retired school teacher, a dabbler in many textile crafts, and an experienced knitter. I am always keen to explore different techniques, and, for me, patchwork knitting has been one of those.

Skills required

Basic hand knitting skills.

Preparation

None

What to bring

  • DK yarn in two contrasting colours (any fibre).
  • Short knitting needles, or double pointed needles (4.5m or 5mm). You will need a circular needle to complete the scarf, but it is unlikely that you will reach that stage during the workshop.

Additional material

Lynda will supply a handout with instructions and pattern suggestions.
