By the end of this workshop you will be able to knit cables that are a different colour from their background.

We will make a swatch of crossing cables on a reverse stockinette background using an intarsia approach.

I started knitting when I was working away from home as a way of “turning off” in the evenings. I always have several projects on the go – and always one that contains something new. In the past, I have “investigated” stranded knitting, lace knitting and steeks and have presented workshops at four Conventions on these and design topics.

Skills required

You need to be a confident knitter and able to cast on, and make knit and purl stitches and cast off.

Preparation

If you are not familiar with intarsia, you can find out about the basics by reading the workshop notes for the “Let’s Learn Intarsia Together” workshop at Convention 2024.

What to bring

  • Three smooth contrasting DK yarns (roughly 10g of each) – avoid dark colours.
  • 4mm knitting needles.
  • Cable needle in a size the same as or smaller than the knitting needles.
  • Scissors or snips to cut yarn.
  • Paper and pen for making notes.
